Are Slack apps free or paid?

Measured 2026-09-08. n = 2,687 distinct apps across all 28 marketplace categories.

Mostly paid. Of 2,687 apps read from the Slack Marketplace in September 2026, only 421, or 15.7 percent, are labelled free. 27.2 percent are freemium, 34.5 percent are paid, and 12.5 percent come with a subscription to the vendor's own product. Taken together, 74.1 percent either charge or are bundled with something that does.

Slack labels every app in its marketplace as free, freemium, paid, paid with a trial, or included with a subscription. It does not publish how the marketplace divides between them.

How the marketplace splits

Pricing labelAppsShare
Freemium, a free tier and a paid tier73027.2%
Paid, with a free trial69325.8%
Free42115.7%
Included with a subscription to the vendor's product33612.5%
Paid, no trial2338.7%
No pricing stated27410.2%

Only one app in six is simply free. This is the most commercial marketplace in this collection by that measure. Set it against Notion's integration gallery, where every one of the 381 listings has a price of zero, and the difference between a directory and a market becomes visible.

The pattern is that the closer a category sits to a company's revenue, the less of it is free. Marketing is 5 percent free; social and fun is 31 percent.

Slack does not take the money

Despite being the most commercial marketplace here, Slack runs no billing. There is no price on a listing, no checkout, and no subscription managed by Slack. The label tells a buyer that an app costs something and then sends them to the vendor to find out what. For a developer that means the marketplace supplies the audience and none of the plumbing, the opposite of the Atlassian or Wix arrangement.

Language

2,394 of 2,687 apps, 89.1 percent, support only English. Japanese is next at 161 apps, then French at 114, German at 112, Spanish at 96 and Korean at 62.

How this was measured

On 2026-09-08 we paged all 28 categories of the Slack Marketplace as a signed out visitor and read the app data Slack embeds in each category page. Every figure comes from Slack's own fields: the pricing_info label, the category, and the declared supported languages. 287 requests returned 2,687 distinct apps.

One trap is worth recording for anyone repeating this. The page parameter advances the window by one app, not by a page, so paging 1, 2, 3 returns almost the same 25 apps each time. The pages have to be requested in steps of 25.
