HTTP Client Runner

A VS Code extension for the .http and .rest files you already have. Version 0.5.7.

A Send action sits above every request. The response opens beside it.

What it does

• Sends a single request from the editor. This stays free.
• Runs a whole file, records the responses as a baseline, and then reports only what changed. Comparison is by structure, so ids, tokens and timestamps that move do not raise alarms.
• Runs the same files in CI with a JUnit report, and can write GitHub Actions workflows that replay them on a schedule and open an issue when a response stops matching.
• Writes a status badge file and a Markdown API reference from recorded runs, with secrets redacted.
• Imports a Postman v2.1 collection or an Insomnia v4 export into plain .http files, on your machine.
• Reads http-client.env.json and http-client.private.env.json, the same shape IntelliJ uses.

Command line and CI

The engine the extension uses is also a command-line tool:

Download: httprunner.tgz (version 0.5.7). Workflows written by version 0.5.6 or earlier point at an old GitHub address that no longer works: run Set Up CI and Monitoring again, or change the "Get httprunner" line to the address above.

Sending one request is free. Running files, comparing responses, CI and monitoring are 5 USD a month or 48 USD a year, with a 14 day trial and no card or account to start.
